All elections within the corporate boundaries of the City of Aurora are under the jurisdiction of the Aurora Election Commission. The Election Commission was established by referendum in 1934 by the people of Aurora.

The Election Commission is responsible for all voter registration in Aurora as well as the conduct of elections for national, state, county, city, and township offices.

Currently there are 63 precincts in Aurora and over 38,000 registered voters.
