HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND
RAPID RE-HOUSING PROGRAM

Program Summary

Kane County renters that are finding it difficult to make ends meet during the economic downturn have a place to turn to for help. The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) provides financial and legal assistance to either prevent low-income individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. Federal funding for the program is coming to the area via the State of Illinois, Kane County, and the City of Aurora.

Five local non-profit organizations have been selected to administer the program. All are part of the Continuum of Care for Kane County, a coalition of agencies that provide housing and services to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Continuum of Care is supported and funded by Kane County and the Cities of Aurora and Elgin.
