Kane Board Member Honored

The Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) has been honored with an award from the Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District in recognition of the environmental commitment  demonstrated by KDOT in the recently-opened Stearns Road Bridge Corridor. The environmental award was one of several presented by the District at its annual meeting Feb. 15. Also recognized was Kane County Board Member Michael Kenyon, who received the John C. Biddle Award, which honors an outstanding farmer, family or partnership for conservation efforts.

KDOT was the 2011 recipient of the District's award for Excellence in Conservation of Land and Water Resources. The award recognizes individuals, groups, or municipalities that strive to preserve land and water resources and show exceptional dedication to soil erosion sediment control, farm preservation, open space, restoration of natural areas and recycling.

Board member Kenyon, of South Elgin, was recognized for taking steps to protect water quality, save soil and preserve natural resources through conservation efforts including, but not limited to, tillage practices, nutrient management and improving wildlife habitat.
