The Information Technologies Department establishes and maintains technology standards and provides countywide technology planning. The Information Technologies Department provides short-term and long-term goals that reflect the needs of the County. The Information Technologies Department also provides the County with research, development, implementation, management, maintenance, and support for a variety of information systems and technologies including infrastructure, mainframe computing, mini-computer, client-server environments, application development, web development, Internet access, e-mail, financial systems, databases, desktop software, and computer training. The Information Technologies Department provides assistance to other County departments and offices to assure the value of their technology investments. The Information Technologies Department provides a secure environment for the County's information resources and provides the necessary access to other government agencies and the general public.

The Application Development & Integration Services provides Kane County with the following: custom applications and user interfaces, data and application integration, database administration and replication, Internet/Intranet, interactive voice response, business analysis, and reporting services. Our custom applications utilize the Microsoft .NET Framework supported by SQL Server back end services. We provide technical support for off-the-shelf solutions and vendor integration.

The Systems Tier is comprised of two staff members. The Systems Tier provides primary administration and support for the IBM AS400 and iSeries environments as well as the third party and custom applications that reside and interface with these systems. The Systems Tier provides administration and support for the County Financial Systems and the County Clerk Vital Records System. Additional application support and services are provided for project management, document management and imaging, print services, report distribution, forms development, user and security setup and custom report generation. System Administration for the environments include user profile management, security administration, database administration, communication services, backup and recovery tasks, performance and resource management, message and alert management, and hardware and software upgrade and patch management. The Systems Tier also provides support and monitoring for Data Center Operations as well as project management for various County sponsored projects.

For the Information Technologies Department, the Chief Finance Officer is responsible for the forecasting, budgeting, requisitioning, chargebacks, accounts receivable and accounts payable, as well as establishing policies as required for daily operations. Additionally, the Chief Finance Officer's responsibilities include microfilming and storage of county documents, copy and print services as required for County Departments, and ordering and contracting telephone circuits, DID and POTs lines, and cellular phones for the majority of the County Departments.
