Kane County does not currently have a residential document shredding program.

Shredding paper degrades the recyclability of the fibers, so please shred judiciously. Confidential information such as account numbers and details, social security numbers, etc. should be kept secure and destroyed before disposing of documents. However, information like name, address, and phone numbers are not considered confidential as they can be found in phone directories or in common records. Those kinds of information do not need to be shredded, unless you prefer it.

It is best if you can remove the section of the sheet of paper with the confidential information on it, rip it into small pieces putting some in one bin and some in another, and recycle the rest of the sheet of paper with your household recycling. If you have a large quantity or don’t want to hassle with the above method you might try the following:

First, try calling your bank to see if they have a free yearly shredding event for their customers; they sometimes do.

Otherwise, here is a list of some companies that offer shredding services in this area.

  • Accurate Document Destruction: 887.309.7916
  • Acme Document Destruction: 866.965.7291
  • Cintas Document Management: 866.370.1151
  • Citadel Information Management: 887.490.0179
  • Groot - Accurate Document Destruction: 800.407.4733
  • Shred-it: 866.774.6315
  • Secure Eco Shred: 773.685.0100

Note: This list is not all inclusive, nor does Kane County promote any of these businesses above others. It is simply a list of options for confidential document shredding services, meant to serve as a helpful guide.
