​On November 9, 2021, the Kane County Board adopted Ordinance #21-475 - Amending the Kane County Code, Chapter 6, Buildings and Building Regulations. The codes below may pertain to the installment or development of EV Charging stations. 

Effective January 1, 2022:




Public Act (P.A.) 103-0053, also known as the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Act, requires newly constructed single-family homes and multifamily residential buildings with dedicated parking to install EVcapable parking spaces. The Act is effective January 1, 2024, and applies to home rule and non-home rule communities.

  • Single family dwelling (SFD) & and small multi-family development (MFD) must have at least one EV Capable parking space for each unit that has dedicated parking
  • Within large MFD 100% of spaces must be EV Capable
  • Affordable housing for large MFDs must be 40% EV Capable in 2026, 50% by 2029 and 70% EV Capable (2034)
