GENERAL SUMMARY:

Perform building and property maintenance related inspections to enforce the Kane County Code, record results and maintain paper and digital files.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Make all inspections required by the Building Code and other provisions of the County Code (i.e., zoning, property maintenance and other related ordinances). Building Code inspections include, but are not limited to: footing form, foundation forms with steel, foundations before backfill, framing, rough wiring, final occupancy, for new construction additions, remodeling and for buildings and structures which are accessory to existing buildings.
Perform all administrative tasks as required by ordinance and adopted procedures, including: completion of inspections forms, submittal of reports, filing forms in appropriate files, and updating computer database, including downloading and attaching digital images, as required. Provide input for updating codes and procedures.
Act as code compliance inspector and investigator. Locate reported violations, field identify non-compliance situations, check ownership records, tag structures in violation, record location and type of problem, appear in administrative adjudication hearings and/or court as needed to provide testimony and evidence.
Provide public assistance relative to the building code and other ordinances. Answer questions in field, office and over the telephone. Assist public in understanding code requirements, construction techniques and other building questions.
May perform other duties as determined by the Director to promote the public health, safety and general welfare and meet the requirements of the County Code.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

High School diploma
8-10 years experience in building and construction trades.
Valid drivers license and safe driving record
Able to read blueprints
General knowledge of construction tools, techniques and safety practices.
Knowledge of building code and inspection procedures
Ability to interact and communicate with public and cooperate with other departments and local code and fire jurisdictions.
