KANE ASA HONORED FOR NARCOTICS PROSECUTION
The Kane County States Attorneys Office again has been recognized for making the community safer from illegal narcotics. Assistant States Attorney Kelly M.
Orland recently was honored by the
Illinois Metropolitan Enforcement Group Directors and Task Commanders Association Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs Enforcement for her work with local and regional law-enforcement officials in a nine-month narcotics investigation that resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of more than $400,000 in cash, three kilograms of cocaine, three vehicles and a house.
It is the second time in two years that Orland has been recognized by Illinois MEG. Last year she was honored for work she did in 2009 and 2010, when she worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the North Central Narcotics Task Force on an investigation that led to the indictments of 10 individuals with connections to the Chicago area on numerous drug-related charges and the seizure of more than one ton of marijuana and nearly $500,000 in cash.
Kelly, an ASA with the office since 2001, heads the Special Prosecution Unit, which handles narcotics cases. Although this award was presented to Kelly for work she did, a tremendous amount of teamwork is involved. The Special Prosecution Unit, attorneys and support staff alike, can be depended upon to selflessly collaborate for the overall success of the unit and the office, said Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon.
