Upcoming Event

Our last big recycling event of the year is almost here!

What: Free residential confidential document shredding. Collection of liquid latex paint, aerosol items and small propane tanks (full list of accepted items here) and child car seats.
Where: Circuit Court Building/"Old Montgomery Wards", 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

When: Saturday, October 8th, 2022 8am - noon. Rain or shine. Will be paused or called off in the event of t-storms or other weather hazards.

Costs: (payable directly to vendors, cash or card)
  • Shredding is free for Kane Co. residents. No business shredding!
  • Aerosol items are $1 each, full or empty
  • Propane tanks must be 16 oz. or smaller, and are $3 each
  • Car seats are $20 (while this seems like a lot, it takes a lot of work to dissemble the seats and get each component to a recycler)
  • Latex paint is by volume as follows:
    • Pint cans and sample sizes are $1
    • Gallon cans are $3
    • Two-gallon cans are $5
    • Fifteen gallon buckets are $15

Document preparation: You, yes you dear document holders, are the keys to making sure the event is as efficient and painless as possible for everyone. Our staff and volunteers can only do so much. Ready, Shreddy...GO! by knowing the program limits, preparing your documents properly, and by knowing what to expect on-site. Read all about it here !

Paint preparation: Double check your paint cans to make sure the material inside is still liquid. We can only recycle liquid paint. Dried out latex paint can be thrown out in normal trash. Do not mix different paints together, as it can make them unrecyclable. Also, double check the label to make sure the product is water/latex based. If there is a flammability warning on the can, that's a sure sign that it is not a water based product and needs to be disposed of as household hazardous waste. Spray paint is the exception which we can take at the aerosol station.
