Electronics Recycling

The Kane County Electronics Recycling Program is for residential equipment only, and includes 2 year-round drop-off locations and a schedule of Saturday collection events (see below for details). Businesses can see this list of electronics recycling companies to assist with their needs.

We take a variety of materials at our events, including books, paint, and documents for shredding. Scroll down for specifics.

Costs: TVs and Monitors cost $25 (under 21" measured diagonally) or $35 (21" or over). All other acceptable items are free to drop off. Pay onsite with cash or card or pay online in advance HERE (if you use this option, you MUST print the receipt and bring it with you).

Why is there a fee on TVs and Monitors? TVs and monitors contain lead and/or mercury and must be processed as hazardous material, a more expensive process that makes the consumer-based fee a necessity. The fee is paid directly to the County's contracted electronics recycler - eWorks, a non-profit that employs people with developmental disabilities. You are helping a good cause and responsibly disposing of your used electronics!

Staffed sites: These sites are staffed. They will help you unload, take your payment (cash or card), and issue a tax deduction receipt.

Data security: Kane County contracts with eWorks Recycling Services, located in Elk Grove Village. All data stored on computer hard drives will be completely erased or destroyed under the highest security (meeting all FACTA privacy protection requirements). They use the BLANCO data erasure software and the Department of Defence Standard 7-pass kill disk.
BOOKS (can be recycled at events, see below)

Books can be of any age, in any condition, either paperback or hardcover. They are assessed for reuse and redistributed if possible. Otherwise they are sent for recyling.
