News & Announcements, June 2022:

  • Annual Extravaganza Coming Up Our Extravaganza event for hard-to-recycle materials is  coming soon - July 9th to be exact! We've added details about accepted materials to our events website. Site map coming soon.
  • Seeking Volunteers for multiple Saturday events: None of our recycling events would be possible without the time and efforts of dedicated volunteers! See our call for event volunteers for more details. Want to join the crew? Please fill out the online form here.
  • Check out the Recycling Article Archive during the KCC hiatus: The Kane County Connects blog and e-newsletter is undergoing a redesign and some re-envisioning under the leadership of the County's new Public Information Officer. If you're missing our weekly recycling bulletins, check out our archive, now up to date with all of our articles linked through May 2022.
  • All about Wish-Cycling: There are several new resources out about "wish-cycling." Wish-cycling is when people put items that can't be recycled into recycling bins. Kane County's new resources include a new flier (2 pages) and a slightly longer guide (6 pages). Also, the IL Task Force for Recycling Contamination Solutions, in which Kane Co. participates, recently put out a two-minute PSA on wish-cycling. Watch it here!
  • Sign-up open for HHW Collection in McHenry County: Our neighbors to the North at McHenry County Dept. of Health are co-hosting a household hazardous waste collection event with IL EPA. It will be at Prairie Ridge High School, 6000 Dvorak Dr., Crystal Lake on June 25 and is open to all Illinois residents. However, you do need to reserve a timeslot ahead of time here. Can't make the event? Check out our home collection program, primarily serving the northern most communities of Kane County.
  • Battery, bulbs & sharps page updates We get a lot of calls about how to recycle batteries and light bulbs and it can be confusing because there are so many different types these days and it isn't always easy to tell them apart. Sharps pose another issue for home users who rely on them to deliver medicine. To provide the best info possible we overhauled our battery page, light bulbs page, and sharps disposal page. Check out the handy batteries and bulbs interactive map
